Executive Bio FAQs
Why are most bios bad? Most bios are boring, providing little insight into the person behind the bio. They say “held this job, did this, went to school there….” Change the names and locations and it is representative of 80% of American professionals. You may be impressed by the credentials but you aren’t like to be engaged with the people themselves. When do I need a bio? There are a wide variety of applications for your bio. They range from short 50-word bios for seminar brochures to comprehensive credential-heavy bios for Board of Director opportunities. While they are different in some meaningful ways, they can all be developed from a basic Foundation Bio. Why do I need a bio for job search? Your resume provides the details – relevant facts about your work history, accomplishments and credentials. It announces you are looking for a job. Your bio tells your story. It’s short and is absorbed quickly by the reader. It’s about spin, cherry picking your most outstanding characteristics and accomplishments. Since a bio is applicable to many situations, it is safer to be public – less unwanted exposure or jeopardy. |
